The Work That Keeps Getting Pushed Aside
Most businesses don’t have a starting problem. They have a finishing one. Work gets initiated, priorities shift, and things that genuinely matter get pushed aside. Not abandoned. Just perpetually waiting. I spent 20 years watching this happen across organizations of every size.
But in a small business, the resources aren’t there to absorb it. What gets pushed aside tends to stay that way, and the impact is felt more directly. I built GoldMarks Virtual Support for exactly that reason.
What This Looks Like in Practice
A website is a good example.
Most small business websites technically work. The pages exist, the contact information is there. But the messaging may be unclear, the design feels dated, and the overall impression doesn’t reflect the quality of the actual business. It doesn’t need a full rebuild. It needs someone to assess what’s working, finish what’s incomplete, and make sure the whole thing actually represents the business well.
The same is true for marketing materials. They exist. They may have even worked well at one point. But the brand has evolved, the messaging has shifted, and the materials haven’t kept up. A brochure or one-pager that looks like it’s from five years ago sends a signal, whether you intend it to or not.
None of these feel urgent on any given day. But they matter.
Why it Matters
Most of the time it isn’t one big thing. It’s the accumulation. A half-dozen items that never quite closed, each one reasonable to defer on any given day, but together they create a quiet drag on the business. Things don’t finish themselves. That’s not a criticism. It’s just true.
And it’s exactly the kind of work GoldMarks is built around. If something on your list has been waiting long enough, I’d be glad to talk it through.

What I'm noticing, using, and returning to
The Fig app is a barcode scanner that tells you instantly whether a food product works for you. I pay close attention to what I eat for health reasons, and this app takes the guesswork out of grocery shopping. You create a personalized profile based on your dietary needs, and the app scans against it, giving you an instant yes or no at the shelf. Worth downloading if you have any restrictions or are just trying to eat more intentionally.
Until next time,
